June 1st has arrived! It is time to announce 2008's Poetry Contest Winners!

From The Editor:

Well, I must now announce another contest's winners. I love the work that is getting sent my way. It is so hard to be a judge of who is "The Best."

Everything sent in to Pond Ripples was once again fantastic. We actually recieved an entry from my home state of Tennessee this time, which is cool. Since changing to e-zine format, I don't necessarily know where all of you subscribers read this mag from, but I'm excited at the thought of truly being accessible world-wide without having to worry about postal rates. (I still look forward to the day when I can switch formats to a paper magazine. It will hold so much more!)

At any rate, I will try not to keep you waiting to see the winners, but I want to mention one final thing. The photography deadline is coming! Tell every photographer you know that $100 could be earned as well as the opputunity to share a masterpiece with the world. See the contest page for more details.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Burgener, editor

First Annual Poetry Contest for Pond Ripples Winners

First Place - $100.00 Winner!

A Still Small Voice
By Nancy Lee Shrader

A Still Small Voice is heard
In the quiet place
Silent is the Word
Bringing you God’s Grace

In the quiet hours
Feel the peace within
The voice heard empowers
And your faith begins

Calming is the voice
Speaking of the love
Called to make a choice
Silent whispers from above

Flutter in the heart
Quiet as a dove
Feel His grace impart
Through a voice of love

Set your heart ablaze
Hear and rejoice
Give God the praise
For His Still Small Voice

The Empty Nest
By Michelle Kercheval

Our house was filled in recent years
With children’s laughter, songs, and tears.
But now they’re grown and gone away;
The house is quiet day by day.

No giggling squealing little girl
With ballet shoes and a head of curls.
No loud and rowdy little boys
Are slamming doors and making noise.

No cartoons blaring on TV;
No one to cry, “He’s touching me!”
We miss the video games and toys
And even the neighbor girls and boys.

Our house is quiet; we get more rest.
But we miss the days before the “empty nest.”

Words from the Author:

My name is Michelle Kercheval. I am the mother of three grown children and my husband and I live in Pocahontas, Arkansas. I work part-time at our county library and am also working toward a degree in early childhood education.
