Spotlight: Wanda Argersinger
Wanda Argersinger began her humor writing career in the second grade when she used her spelling words to write a story about “mice who live in the walls and party all night long.”
Since that time, life has been faithful to provide Argersinger with plenty of material. She says, “I am probably the only person you will ever meet who was run over by a boat while driving my car.” A teenage driver was pulling the boat. Argersinger was behind him in a parking lot when he decided to back up. “The motor of the boat opened the hood just like a can opener. . . I jumped out of the car like a crazed lunatic.”
Although Argersinger doesn’t make a living from her humor writing, and she would like to, she believes her day job is perfect. She works as the Executive Director for the Lupus Support Network. She says, “I get to assist lupus patients and believe I am making a difference in people’s lives. The only addition to this job would be to be able to speak to more people and teach them to laugh.” Argersinger feels so passionately about helping those with lupus that funding lupus research is the first item on her list of things to do if she won the lottery. She would also like to help her children and travel the world. In particular, she would like “to travel Europe meeting the people and learning about the cultures.”
Argersinger opens her eyes each day at 3 am so she can write before going to work. She also takes advantage of waiting times like in doctor’s offices. She points outs, “You never know when an idea may strike,” so she carries a blue notebook with her everywhere to catch all of life’s little bits of humor.
Her little blue notebook has served her well. Argersinger has a book available called Y-Mee’s A B C Book of Emotions about a doll named Y-Mee who gives advice on dealing with the emotions of related to the “Why Me’s?” It is available on Amazon, Lulu, and Argersinger’s website. She also has another book Shhhhh, I’m Trying to Eavesdrop, which is a collection of humorous stories, scheduled for release this year.
